A Malta-based photographer with photography as my primary craft and a growing interest in the wider arts scene. Alongside developing my photographic practice, I am interested in exploring different areas of the arts, particularly curation, research and exhibition-making. I enjoy seeing how different creative practices come together and how the way work is presented can influence the experience and perspective of the viewer.

A grandmother’s table standing in as a portrait of a family.
Il-Mejda tan-Nanna explores family, community, memory and the passage of time through my grandmother’s dining table — the central meeting point of our weekly family gatherings. Rather than photographing my family directly, the table becomes a portrait of them, revealing years of shared experiences through its everyday details and signs of use. The project involved extensive research, experimentation and repeated testing, exploring different photographic approaches, compositions and perspectives. A key challenge was finding a way to communicate the emotional history held within an ordinary object. The final work combines multiple photographs into a layered collage, representing the accumulation of memories and generations around the table, while transforming it into a symbol of family unity, belonging and shared memory.

My practice sits between photography and curatorial thinking. I photograph memory, place and the ordinary objects that hold a family or a community together, then consider how such work should be sequenced, printed and presented — as a book, a concertina, a series or a collage.
I see my gap year as an opportunity to learn, explore and expand my knowledge within the arts. I am seeking opportunities that will allow me to gain practical experience and develop a broader understanding of the creative and cultural sector. Curation is a particular area of interest to me, especially the process of bringing different works, artists and ideas together to create a larger narrative and shape how the public experiences and interprets an exhibition.
Interested in contributing to research, curation and exhibition-making while continuing to develop my practice within the arts.
